Compensation & Structure

$17-22 per hour, depending on academic year, up to 40 hours per month. Hours are flexible and can be arranged around academic or professional schedules.

Role Overview

The Venture Capital Internship at Keyhorse Capital is a high-growth, hands-on opportunity to gain direct exposure to early-stage investing, startups, and innovation. Interns will support active deal flow, portfolio companies, and ecosystem initiatives while working directly with the investment team.  The role is best suited for students or early-career professionals eager to break into venture capital and entrepreneurship, with Kentucky-based candidates strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Deal Diligence 

  • Research and evaluate early-stage technology startups across diverse industries.
  • Assist in due diligence by analyzing markets, competitors, and financials.

Portfolio Engagement

  • Support portfolio companies through targeted research and special projects.
  • Identify opportunities for value-add initiatives to strengthen portfolio outcomes.

Ecosystem Development

  • Help organize or support events, founder programs, and community outreach.

Special Projects

  • Contribute to special projects, ranging from reports to media initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in venture capital, startups, entrepreneurship, or innovation.
  • Solid analytical and research skills; able to synthesize data into actionable insights.
  • Strong financial modeling skills (Excel or similar) to evaluate early-stage companies.
  • Clear, professional communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Excited to learn from direct exposure to live deals and founder interactions.
  • Thrives in fast-moving, unstructured environments and takes ownership of projects.
  • Curious and resourceful — enjoys digging deep into new markets and industries.
  • Balances professionalism with creativity; can write sharp memos or design engaging content.
  • Based in Louisville (preferred), though candidates from any city are considered.
  • Views this internship as a stepping stone toward a career in VC, entrepreneurship, or innovation.
